A candid conversation with Shelley Osagie on Leadership, Change, and Innovation at ASPPB

In an insightful discussion, ASPPB’s Chief Operating Officer, Shelley Osagie, sat down with Sarah M. Kaufman, our Director of Communications and Engagement, to explore the future and evolution of our organization. Here is the first part of their conversation:

Sarah M. Kaufman: Shelley, as ASPPB’s COO, you play a critical role in advancing our five-year strategic plan. In this context, what is the most important aspect of your role?

Shelley Osagie: Great question, Sarah. The core of my role is ensuring operational excellence while aligning with our strategic goals. This means translating our strategic plan into actionable steps across the association. I focus on several key areas: making sure resources are optimally used, driving operational efficiency, leading, and developing our team, engaging with stakeholders, fostering innovation, and managing compliance and risk. Each of these areas is essential for turning our vision into reality.

Sarah: Your role encompasses a wide range of critical functions. What are the three main initiatives you believe will bring the most benefit to our members?

Shelley: We are focusing on three primary initiatives to benefit our members: enhancing knowledge, fostering collaboration, and ensuring public protection. Firstly, we are overhauling our communications strategy to better engage with our members and share thought leadership. This includes launching a new website, improving our social media presence, and revitalizing our outreach efforts. Secondly, we are developing a new engagement framework to facilitate collaboration and resource-sharing for our members. Lastly, we are committed to providing tools and support to help our members navigate regulatory challenges, reinforcing our core mission of public protection.

Sarah: These initiatives seem poised to make a significant impact. How do you see technology playing a role in helping ASPPB be more forward-thinking?

Shelley: Technology is a game-changer for us. By adopting modern technological solutions, we can enhance our efficiency and drive innovation. We are focusing on digital transformation of our processes, which includes developing mobile applications and digital advocacy platforms. Additionally, we are exploring blockchain technology for secure digital credentials. These advancements will help us better serve our members and stakeholders, making our operations more streamlined and forward-thinking.

Sarah: Thank you, Shelley, for sharing these insights. Stay tuned for more as we continue to delve into ASPPB’s evolution through the lens of its COO. For more information or to provide feedback, reach out to us at engaged@asppb.org. Your insights drive our mission!
