Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP)
The keys to your success as a practicing psychologist are trust and competence. You need the trust of consumers and colleagues to establish and maintain the productive relationships that are essential to doing your job. You also need industry-standard knowledge and skills to deliver outcomes that align with people’s expectations for professional psychology services. We at ASPPB developed the EPPP to ensure that you and your fellow practitioners are well equipped to fulfill baseline expectations and strengthen the profession.
EPPP basics
We created and continue to administer the two-part EPPP exam on behalf of our 66 jurisdictional boards in the U.S. and Canada. All 66 member jurisdictions require you to achieve a passing score on the EPPP (Part 1–Knowledge) prior to licensure. Some jurisdictions also require you to achieve a passing score on the EPPP (Part 2–Skills). Contact the jurisdiction where you will be seeking licensure to determine if you will be required to take the EPPP (Part 2–Skills) exam.
EPPP (Part 1–Knowledge) assesses:
- General knowledge of psychology, intervention, and assessment
- Grasp of theories in areas such as cognition, affect, and development
- Awareness of key research topics and factors impacting psychological functioning
The recommended passing score for EPPP (Part 1–Knowledge) is 500.
EPPP (Part 2–Skills) assesses:
- Application of the knowledge tested in EPPP (Part 1–Knowledge) to decision-making in typical situations of real-world, independent practice
The recommended passing score for EPPP (Part 2–Skills) is 500.
