Accreditation

At the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB), we affirm the objectives of the American Psychology Association (APA) and the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) to protect the public by supporting quality education and training in health-service psychology. We also endorse the policy that graduation from an APA/CPA accredited program should be a minimum requirement for doctoral level licensure of health-service providers.

Accreditation by the CPA

At ASPPB, we affirm that doctoral-level training programs certified by the CPA should be deemed equivalent to APA-certified programs for the purposes of licensure by licensing authorities in the U.S. and Canada. In the event that legislation in a particular licensing jurisdiction does not permit equivalent treatment of CPA and APA accreditation, we recommend that applicants not be excluded from consideration solely because they graduated from a CPA-certified program rather than an APA-certified program.
