First launched in 1965, the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP)® remains the most widely used and trusted tool for assessing readiness to practice psychology in the United States and Canada.
EPPP: A 60-Year Commitment to Public Protection
First introduced by ASPPB in 1965, the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP)® was created to support mobility and regulatory consistency across jurisdictions. Now in its 60th year, the EPPP remains the standard licensure exam for professional psychology in the U.S. and Canada.
The Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) has led the advancement of psychology licensure since its founding in 1961. After World War II spotlighted the urgent need for mental health care, psychology shifted from academic theory to clinical practice. In response, leaders in the field began setting standards for education, training, and professional recognition.
