The Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) proudly announces the beginning of its 65th anniversary celebration, marking more than six decades of leadership, collaboration, and service in the regulation of psychology across the United States and Canada.

The anniversary celebration was officially announced by Dr. Mariann Burnetti-Atwell, ASPPB’s Chief Executive Officer, at the 65th Annual Meeting of the Delegates, held in St. Louis, Missouri, in October 2025. The milestone year will honor ASPPB’s history of progress and partnership while highlighting its ongoing commitment to innovation and public protection.

Founded in 1961 by the American Psychological Association, ASPPB traces its roots to the first Annual Meeting of the Delegates in 1960. From its inception, ASPPB’s mission has been clear—to support member jurisdictions in fulfilling their responsibility of public protection by advancing consistency, quality, and integrity in the licensure of psychologists.

One of ASPPB’s earliest and most enduring achievements was the development of a standardized examination for professional licensure—the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP). This milestone established a common foundation for evaluating competence and ensuring public safety. Over the years, ASPPB has continued to evolve, leading initiatives that promote professional mobility, improve licensure processes, and strengthen the regulatory framework that underpins competent psychological practice.

This anniversary year, celebrated under the theme “65 Years of Growth, Innovation, and Service,” is both a reflection on ASPPB’s remarkable legacy and a forward-looking commitment to continued progress. The organization honors the dedication of its 66-member jurisdictions, volunteers, and partners who have shaped its success and impact.

“For 65 years, ASPPB has remained steadfast in its commitment to public protection and the advancement of psychology licensure,” said Dr. Mariann Burnetti-Atwell, ASPPB’s CEO. “As we celebrate this milestone, we also look ahead to a future defined by innovation, collaboration, and shared dedication to ensuring the competent practice of psychology.”
