ASPPB is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to provide vision and leadership and advance the Association’s mission and strategic goals, while fostering a positive organizational culture and ensuring operational excellence across the Association.

Working closely with the Board of Directors, senior management, Association members, and key stakeholders, the CEO will advance the Association’s initiatives and represent ASPPB externally. The CEO is also responsible for the employment and performance of Central Office staff and oversees core functions including finance, budgeting, staffing, and performance management.

Principal responsibilities

  • Leadership and Vision. Lead the development and articulation of the Association’s vision, mission, and long-term goals. Oversee implementation of strategies and objectives approved by the Board.
  • Operational Performance and Management. Provide strategic leadership to senior management and ensure the Association has the capacity, talent, and culture needed to achieve its goals.
  • Board Relations and Governance. Build a productive relationship with the Board and provide timely, accurate information, reports, updates, and recommendations to support its governance role.
  • Community and Stakeholder Relations. Represent the Association and build relationships with members, liaison organizations, regulatory bodies, community leaders, government agencies, media, and the public.
  • Communication and Information Management. Maintain effective communication with the Board, staff, member jurisdictions, stakeholders, and other interested parties while supporting secure information management and transparency.
  • Financial Management. Maintain strong financial controls, sound budgeting and reporting, appropriate investment oversight, regulatory compliance, and long-term financial health of the Association.
  • Operational Excellence and Risk Management. Ensure effective resource allocation, data security, compliance with applicable requirements and policies, and appropriate identification and management of organizational risk.

The ideal candidate

The successful candidate will combine extensive executive leadership experience with knowledge of psychology regulation, strong financial and strategic capabilities, experience working with Boards of Directors, and the interpersonal skills required to lead collaboratively and represent the Association effectively.

Qualifications

  • Current licensure as a psychologist, preferably with a doctoral degree.
  • Senior executive experience, preferably within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
  • Knowledge of regulations and regulatory boards, together with knowledge of national and international issues affecting psychology.
  • Proven success leading, inspiring, supervising, and developing a diverse team while fostering a healthy, inclusive, and high-performing culture.
  • Financial acumen demonstrated through experience in financial planning, budgeting, and risk management.
  • Strategic thinking and decision-making skills with experience in strategic planning and execution.
  • Strong experience with Boards of Directors, including the ability to support governance while maintaining operational accountability.
  • Communication experience representing an organization to members, external stakeholders, and the public.
  • Stakeholder-engagement and relationship-building skills and experience.

Position details

The CEO will be based in, and work from, the Association’s Central Office in Tyrone, GA, near the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.  Significant travel is an expected and regular component of this position, including travel to meetings, conferences, and other Association activities throughout the United States and Canada. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and the requirements of the position. The anticipated start date is March 1, 2027, with some flexibility based upon the successful candidate’s availability.
