Updates on the EPPP’s Accessibility, Eligibility, and Cost for 2028

The current EPPP (Part 1-Knowledge) and EPPP (Part 2-Skills) will remain available to all approved candidates until the integrated EPPP takes effect in the fourth quarter of 2027. At that time, the EPPP (Part 1-Knowledge) and EPPP (Part 2 – Skills) will no longer be available to first-time candidates. Candidates who have not passed the EPPP (Part 1-Knowledge) or EPPP (Part 2-Skills) prior to the effective date of the integrated EPPP will be allowed to retake the respective exam through March 31, 2028. Effective on April 1, 2028, the integrated EPPP will be the only exam – the EPPP – accessible to all candidates.

Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP)®

Eligibility Requirements

Recognizing that Licensing Boards and Colleges are responsible for approving candidate eligibility to take the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology, the Association for State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB)® recommends:

  • Candidates should have completed coursework from a doctoral degree program acceptable to the licensing board/college; and
  • Candidates should have completed all or most of their required supervised experience, as determined by the licensing board/college.

Cost Updates

  • There is a $100 cost for the EPPP beta test
  • Effective April 1, 2026, the EPPP exam fee will be $650. The Board of Directors will consider biannual increases informed by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), starting April 1, 2030.

Noteworthy points about the new integrated EPPP, which will be operational in the Fall of 2027

  • It will be a computer-based exam administered in Pearson testing centers.
  • It will be a single-day administration.
  • It will include single-best 3- or 4-option multiple-choice, extended multiple-choice, scenario-based question sets, and audio and video portions.
  • It will measure competencies across six content domain areas with specific knowledge and skills.
  • It will have a pass/fail standard based on a total score.

In February, ASPPB announced the exam blueprint and specifications for the EPPP, which will become operational in the Fall of 2027.
