Five Things to Know when Requesting EPPP Accommodations

Candidates preparing to take the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP)® sometimes need exam accommodations. If a candidate has a documented disability or impairment recognized under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or the Accessible Canada Act (ACA), a request for exam accommodations may be presented to take the EPPP.
The Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB)®, in its commitment to providing all qualified candidates an equal opportunity to successfully complete the EPPP while ensuring the validity and security of the examination, has compiled a list of considerations to help organize, expedite, and ease the process for candidates.
Five Things to Know
- Candidates with documented disabilities or impairments recognized by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or the Accessible Canada Act (ACA) who wish to be tested under nonstandard conditions must request accommodations directly from the licensing authority where they are seeking licensure.
- Documentation from the appropriate professionals/physicians verifying and supporting the need for the accommodation(s) requested must be submitted to the licensing authority for review.
- The candidate’s licensing authority is responsible for the review and approval of accommodation requests. If warranted, the licensing authority will collaborate with the ASPPB® for a final review and implementation planning.
- The process requires the submission of the appropriate medical documentation, a full review of the documentation, correspondence regarding the types of accommodations available and approved, the creation of an implementation plan, and communication with our exam delivery vendor regarding all details necessary for the appropriate delivery of the approved accommodations.
- A candidate requesting accommodations should keep in mind that these communications must take place before the exam can be scheduled, and therefore, the time between requesting an accommodation and scheduling the exam with the approved accommodation(s) may take several weeks.
