Great partners ease the journey for credentialing of professional psychologists

Support, guidance, and timely processing of comprehensive information are fundamental when working towards credentialing. This is where the Application Services team of the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) serves our applicants.
Kaitlyn, the Director of Application Services, leads a dedicated team within the Mobility Services Department, streamlining the credentialing process. The Application Services team works with the Credentials Bank®, the Psychology Licensure Universal System (PLUS)®, the Interjurisdictional Practice Certificate (IPC)®, and E.Passport®.
Sarah: Kaitlyn, tell me about E.Passport.
Kaitlyn: The E.Passport is one of the requirements for the Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT)® certificate issued by the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT)® Commission. ASPPB ensures that those being issued an E.Passport have met established criteria.
E.Passport- to practice telepsychology under the authority of PSYPACT a person will need to apply and obtain an E.Passport from ASPPB. Once approved psychologists must apply and obtain an Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) from the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT) Commission.
IPC- promotes standardization in criteria for short term practice and interjurisdictional mobility by facilitating the process for licensed psychologists to provide in person face-to-face psychology services, for up to 30 calendar days per year, per PSYPACT jurisdiction. The ASPPB IPC is one of the requirements for the Temporary Authorization to Practice (TAP)® certificate issued by the PSYPACT Commission. In order to practice under the authority of PSYPACT for temporary in-person face-to-face practice, one must have the TAP as issued by the PSYPACT Commission.
It is important to note that the E.Passport and IPC are prerequisites only, and do not grant a psychologist the right to practice under the authority of PSYPACT, without the corresponding authorization issued by the PSYPACT Commission.
Sarah: How does ASPPB ensure a good customer experience for applicants?
Kaitlyn: We focus on providing a high-quality experience through the processing of all applications and offer support and guidance both via email at mobility@asppb.org or psypro@asppb.org, in addition being available by phone at (678) 216-1175. We understand that timeliness is important, and strive to process applications efficiently, especially during peak renewal periods (May-August).
Have PLUS® and the ASPPB Credentials Bank® on Your Side
Having a support system when applying for credentials makes a difference. The Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) offers the Psychology Licensure Universal System (PLUS)®, an online system designated to allow individuals to apply for licensure in any of its six participating jurisdictions which include Georgia, Mississippi, Nevada, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Kaitlyn, Director of Application Services, explains the importance of PLUS®, “PLUS® streamlines the application process for applicants and participating jurisdictions, as well as establishes a PSY|PRO® account and Credentials Bank® for the applicant, as they must use PSY|PRO® in order to apply.”
The ASPPB Credentials Bank® is a free resource available within each applicant’s PSY|PRO® account. It houses applicant materials and documents that applicants upload. PLUS® documents are stored in the Credentials Bank® before, during, and after the PLUS® application process.
“The ASPPB Credentials Bank® is a great resource for applicants to use at any stage of their career. Whether applicants are in their doctoral program or tenured psychologists, they can conveniently house all items pertaining to their schooling and career in one place,” explained Kaitlyn. “All jurisdictions have different requirements. Thus, housing documents in The ASPPB Credentials Bank ® is easier for our applicants when they need these materials transferred.”
Users can bank their credentials, request Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) Score Transfers, and request Credentials Bank Materials Transfers (CBMT). PSY|PRO® also allows users to apply through the PLUS® for certain jurisdictions, apply for the E.Passport®/Authority to Practice Interjurisdiction Telepsychology (APIT®) credential, the Interjurisdictional Practice Certificate (IPC®)/Temporary Authorization to Practice (TAP®) and Certificate of Professional Qualification in Psychology (CPQ®).
