Now Available: Sample Exam for the Psychopharmacology Examination for Psychologists (PEP)®

Eligibility Requirements for the PEP Sample Exam Outlined
The Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB)® has created a sample Psychopharmacology Examination for Psychologists (PEP) exam to support those preparing for it—the PEP measures the foundational knowledge needed to administer medications safely and effectively in psychological practice. The PEP sample exam is available as of April 10, 2026.
ASPPB creates and administers the PEP on behalf of U.S. and Canadian jurisdictional boards that offer licensure to psychologists seeking prescription privileges. Passing the PEP is one of the requirements that specially trained psychologists must meet to obtain prescriptive authority in jurisdictions that have enacted laws allowing it.
About the Sample Exam
The PEP sample exam was created following the same blueprint and test specifications as the operational PEP and will be offered online only, allowing candidates two (2) hours to complete. The PEP sample exam includes 100 items that provide insight into the types of questions and their format to be included in the operational PEP. The PEP sample exam can only be accessed via the PEP candidate’s account in the PEP registration portal, WebAssessor. The cost of the PEP sample exam is $30.00.
PEP Sample Exam Eligibility
To be eligible for the PEP sample exam, a licensed psychologist must have applied to take the PEP through PSY|PRO, have met all requirements, and received ASPPB’s approval.
