Shaping the Next Chapter of the EPPP

EPPP Virtual Town Hall 4 Shaping the Future of the EPPP. We look forward to the participation of practicing psychologists during the upcoming Virtual Town Hall Meeting to be held via Zoom on December 11th from 1:00 – 2:00 pm EST

The Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) is dynamic, with new forms created annually and items reviewed and refined with each iteration. Over the last 15 years, the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) has also been working towards a better way to evaluate competence beyond assessing foundational knowledge. Last year, in response to concerns raised by jurisdictions and stakeholders, ASPPB decided to move away from the planned two-part exam and toward an integrated exam. This step forward led to significant work this year related to both communication and technical adaptation.

The EPPP Collaborative Implementation Task Force (CITF) was created in 2024 to strengthen member representation, gather member input, and provide advice on communication and jurisdictional implementation issues related to the integrated EPPP.

The influence of the CITF has already been seen—especially in shaping this year’s EPPP virtual town hall series. These sessions broadened the conversation by engaging jurisdictions in April, the education and training community in June, students and candidates in September, and practicing psychologists in December. The CITF also developed and distributed the Jurisdictional Survey this summer, giving jurisdictions a valuable opportunity to share perspectives that will inform ASPPB’s next steps.

The technical work on the exam this year focused on developing an integrated blueprint. To be effective, this blueprint will be a true integration—not just a mechanical stacking of the EPPP (Part 1-Knowledge) and the EPPP (Part 2-Skills) blueprints—and it requires the coordinated effort of six different exam committees. The blueprint for the integrated EPPP is ultimately being shaped by input from thousands of psychologists through a Job Task Analysis, which invited all licensed psychologists in the United States and Canada to contribute during August and September.

We look forward to the participation of practicing psychologists during the upcoming Virtual Town Hall Meeting to be held via Zoom on December 11th from 1:00 – 2:00 pm EST. Registration is now open.

Thanks,

Jennifer Laforce, PhD, CPsych

ASPPB’s President-Elect
