Joint designation

In 1987, the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) joined the Joint Designation Project (JDP) launched by the National Register of Health Service Psychologists. The purpose of the JDP was to provide psychology licensing boards throughout the U.S. and Canada with a comprehensive list of doctoral programs that trained individuals appropriately for credentialing purposes.

Over the years, many federal funding agencies and professional organizations in the psychology community requested that licensure require individual candidates to obtain doctoral degrees from accredited programs. This policy goal was in keeping with the licensure standards for other healthcare professions.

ASPPB and the National Register terminated the Joint Designation Project as of June 1, 2018. For historical purposes, ASPPB maintains a listing of all the programs that received Joint Designation status between 1981 – 2018. You also can download the 2013 termination announcement for the Joint Designation Project.
